Abstract: Removal of the plaque biofilm mechanically forms the mainstay in the management of periodontal diseases. Mechanical debridement has its inherent limitations and frequent use of antibiotics is essential for complete resolution of the lesion. Antibiotics, when used directly into the site have more advantages than when administered systemically. This review highlight the rationale and beneficial effects of locally delivered agents.
