Abstract: Currently in India the population of people suffering from lung cancer is increasing at an alarming rate. Chemotherapy is widely used for the management of lung cancer; however it has various side effects. Hence, there is a need to find newer therapeutic agents with fewer side effects. Plant derived substances are generally considered as the most preferred alternative medicines. Thus, in this study, we have tested the antiproliferative property of Cleistanthin-A, a chemical compound extracted from dried leaves of Cleistanthus collinus, against the A549 lung cancer cell lines. The antiproliferative assays used are dye exclusion assay, MTT assay and Comet assay.

Keywords: Cleistanthin-A; anti-proliferative assay; A549 cell lines
